I found a darling blouse at Maurices in Rexburg. I really liked it but couldn’t part with $28. I thought I’d visit their website and see if I could order online later and instead I found a look they call “buffalo babe“. I thought that sounded kind of insulting when I saw it listed in the 14plus size category but it’s also in the regular sizes too ![]()

Well it was hot and lovely for about a week, now it’s raining and I’m tempted to turn on the heat. Here’s my recipe for homemade lemonade.
Homemade Lemonade
1 cup lemon- bottled
2 cups white sugar
Dissolve the sugar in the lemon juice. Add cold water until you get it desired consistency. I use about a quart of water making it super strong but then I add lots of ice to my glass.
What’s for breakfast Mom?! How about pancakes. It sounded great until they realized we were out of syrup. I so have to head to WINCO. I still had leftover pancake batter in the fridge from Sunday and several were OK with using applesauce, jam or even plain with an egg. Sariah however was not satisfied.
I tried to make homemade syrup to please her. 3/4 cup white sugar, 3/4 cup corn syrup and a dash of water. I couldn’t find maple flavoring but we did find aprox 3/34 cup of brown sugar and then I melted it all together along with 2 TB of butter. She hated it.
Strangely Ben LOVED IT! It tastes like carmel MOM! I cheated and added ground oats to his waffles as I mixed them up along with an extra egg.
1-1/2 cup oats ground
1-1/2 cup white flour
2 eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder
powdered sugar ( small cup left out on the cupboard)
evaporated milk and water
mixed it up and added enough liquid so it would pour smoothly into the waffle iron. Like I said Mr Picky-I mean Ben loved it.
Have a great day!

I always love to volunteer for the Spring Book Fair. It’s the Buy One Get One Free deal and it’s right before Easter so I can use my deals for Easter Baskets. This year I went grudgingly to my first pre book fair meeting. I learned that by volunteering to set up or to take down the displays you can earn extra free books. I volunteered for one shift and to help take down. This is what I got!
I got the Clifford book for $1.60 ( marked down cost $3 then my friend and I each got one-buy one get one free deal) I got the Klutz Juggling books originally $12.95, marked down to $5 for working a shift, then the other books Farside Weiner Dog Art and the Seashore book for helping take down the displays. Original costs $9.99 and $10.99.
Total Value: $57.87! Actual Cost $1.60!!!!

Well I don’t really know what I did but it’s taken me a month to figure out how to sign into my blog:( I finally noticed if I went to http://secretsofthebutcherswife.com/wp-admin and used my password, etc I could log in! The only reason I found this out was that I’m working with several other blogs and wasn’t locked out of them. I just used a similar extention on the end of my domain and bingo it worked!
Yes Bob-Bob and the rest of us are having a rough day. I cleaned our disaster of a bathroom just moments before. Then I walk in and find Chrissy had adorned everything from the toilet to the cat with lipstick. Something positive….. she did leave the mirror clean this time. Something else positive- I’ll be getting a new toilet seat as this one has some funky 70’s wooden lid with a carved design. I’m concerned that every time someone sits on the toilet lid they’ll get a red seat. More later. The kids must be feeling a little better as they’re acting like a bunch of bears just waking up from hibernation. Plus I can’t type worth a darn with this 3yr old on my lap.

UCK! I’m surrounded by sickies. I only sent off ONE KID on the bus today, weird! They’ve got that awful cough till you throw up stuff going on. We only had one stay home sick from church but now I’ve got only one home that’s healthy and four that are in various stages of headache, sore throat, achy, coughing, etc.
Home remedies we try; Drink hot apple cider with lots of lemon juice added. Wipe the throat with a chest rub (the generic version of Vick’s Vapor Rub) and wrap with a soft piece of flannel. I also rubbed some on my DD’s feet as I’d gotten an email from my dad recommending it as a good way to treat kids. Plus tylenol or the generic equivalent all around. Gargling with salt water or silver water would work but not if they’re just going to throw it up. I find that dabbing a little Lorann Peppermint oil on the tongue will often tame the cough’s tickle before it gets progressively worse. My oldest son Josh got the cruds before everyone else and he was even drinking lemon juice straight with a straw. He said it cut through the gross mucus in the back of his throat.
Movies they plan to watch today: currrently watching Monte Python’s Search for the Holy Grail, up next Lion King if they can find it. Plus they’ll try to see if they can watch something from Net Flicks- I’m guessing The Office as we cut off our Dish Network package to save $$$ and pay for Dr. bills.
I knew things would be changing at our house when ten years ago I came home from the hospital to spend Christmas with my family LATE! That’s right our newest little surprise had forced me to miss Christmas at home with the family . They did send her home in a cute life-sized stocking but Christmas would never again be the same at our house.
So in the interest of time it’s almost 11pm Here’s Sariah’s budget birthday and semi separated up fulfilled Christmas List as well:
Birthday: A fancy doll,
Christmas: Harmonica, Black dress boots, American Girl type doll with darling hand made pjs. She got her Christmas coat and a thick warm blanket early as she was getting cold. I try to make coats last the kids two years but this previous one was way up past her wrists so I relented.
And those doll pjs are a whole nother story. It took me about 5 hours as I had to design my own patterns and figure out correct measurements etc. Then I realized I needed to make a facing…. I’m lucky I even know what a facing is but somehow I managed.
The next day we went and visited an older couple to take them some Christmas treats and after I vented about the 5 hour jammies she smiled and sent me home with 4 real patterns- one of which is for the exact pjs I wanted. Now that Christmas is over we’ll be able to make some cute clothes together…
I still wasn’t the hero in this case…… Sunday after church I heard ” Mom, everyone in my class got something electric for Christmas. You know like an mp3 player and so-and-so even got their own lap top!” Oh well, she got things to play with, Dolls, but she wants electronics and toys to play with that do things, notjust sit around like dolls that you have to use your imagination for…. sometimes you just never seem to win.
